Phillip Barron is a poet and philosopher in Portland, Oregon.

His first book of poetry, What Comes from a Thing, was published by Fourteen Hills Press. It won the 2019 Nicolás Guillén Outstanding Book Award from the Caribbean Philosophical Association and the 2015 Michael Rubin Book Award. Bright Leaf, a 2022 chapbook of brief, anagramish poems, explores the relationship between place names and their histories. Elsewhere, his poems appear in Hawai’i Pacific Review, Moss, New American Writing, and Brooklyn Rail among other journals. He is a member of the Community of Writers and the Poetry Editor at Philosophy and Global Affairs.

Barron teaches classes in creative writing and philosophy, most recently at Lewis & Clark College. He earned a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Connecticut, writing a dissertation on the metaphysics and phenomenology of personal identity. He also has an MFA in poetry from San Francisco State University.
